LIGO-Virgo Collaboration Gravitational Wave Open Data Workshop #4

May 10-14, 2021

The fourth edition of the LIGO-Virgo gravitational-wave Open Data Workshop will be held on May 10-14, 2021 and will take place remotely, thus allowing worldwide participation. The workshop is intended for students and more experienced scientists that wish to learn how to analyze gravitational wave data in order to conduct research in this new and emerging field of physics.

During the workshop the participants will learn how to access public LIGO and Virgo data available through the Gravitational Wave Open Science Center (GWOSC) at http://www.gw-openscience.org and how to use the associated software libraries through online tutorials.

We are happy to share with you two important news items:

We are opening workshop registration from Wednesday February 24
Participation in the workshop is free. If you are interested in participating please fill the Registration form that you find on our website:

https://www.gw-openscience.org/static/workshop4/

The deadline for registration is March 14. However, due to logistical reasons space in the workshop is limited, therefore we encourage you to register as soon as possible.

Poster session:
For the first time, this year we will give participants the opportunity to present their work during a dedicated poster session. If you are working on a project that is based on gravitational wave open data and you would like to present it, please fill the “Abstract Submission” form on the website.
The deadline for abstract submission is April 18.

LIGO-Virgo Collaboration Gravitational Wave Open Data Workshop #4

May 10-14, 2021

We are pleased to announce the fourth edition of the gravitational-wave open data workshop, which will be held on May 10-14, 2021. The workshop will take place remotely, in order to allow a wide participation worldwide.

This is the fourth in a series of workshops organized by the LIGO and Virgo collaborations and intended for students and more experienced scientists that wish to learn how to analyze gravitational wave data in order to conduct research in this new and emerging field of physics.

Observational data collected during observation runs of LIGO and Virgo are made publicly available at the Gravitational Wave Open Science Center (GWOSC) at the URL http://www.gw-openscience.org . Together with gravitational wave data, the GWOSC also hosts associated software libraries and online materials.

The workshop will offer participants a set of live and recorded lectures, as well as a series of hands-on data analysis sessions. During the sessions, participants will interact with LIGO and Virgo scientists and will learn how to work with software tools that allow to access and process publicly available gravitational-wave data. Due to logistic reasons, space in the workshop is limited.

A second circular will announce the opening of the registrations during the last week of February 2021.
